A Soldier’s Song

You are the sunshine of my life,

You are my hope within all this strife.

I think of you when I go for a kill,

I think of you when I bomb a hill.

I fight for you and you only,

I fight so that you live safely.

Even now, you don’t dare to make a move on me,

Even now you don’t attempt, to invite me for tea.

In your beautiful, enchanted home,

Filled with our stories and poems.

I now must go,

And start the show.

I have waited too long,

So I leave you with this song.

I can now see the enemy arrive,

I will try my best to survive.

As I hold my gun,

I try to remember the sun,

And our memories and moments,

Your smart, sarcastic comments.

They have started shooting,

They have started looting,

The lives of my troops,

My men are dying in groups.

I must go in their base

I must now end this chase.

I know I won’t come back.

When I go in that shack,

So, I bid you farewell my dear

I will always be near

This is my last message to you,

I really love you and hope you do too

And please don’t forever mourn for me

As I will be lying untroubled, in the vast sea
